Day 12 - Moab, UT

Finally, Jill could postpone scheduling of activities no longer. We had to do them today. We ended up scheduling a Hummer trip in the morning, and the girls booked a river cruise at dinnertime.
We started the Hummer tour from an office downtown. Shawn was our dude and driver and guide and he was entertaining. He kept up a patter the whole time. He essentially works a couple of months a year in order to earn money to pursue his passion, which is surfing in exotic destinations. This year, it’s South America.
Jill was a little disappointed. It seems off-roading has evolved into 2 “sports” - ATV-ers ride over dirt roads like nuts while Hummers and Jeeps do technical rock climbs and see how much they can do without flipping. I think Jill would have preferred speed.
Nevertheless our technical climbing and descending was fun and it was cool to see what the Hummer can do... and we didn’t even scratch the surface. Lots of photos, and we saw where some kids missed the brake pedal and were seriously injured in a long fall. I tipped Shawn $30 because I liked his style. We were the only ones on the tour.

In the evening the girls took a walk around some shops downtown and then went on a scenic jetboat tour, which they liked. Shawn had told us that the current “downtown” was relocated from the old downtown about 20 years ago.
We did fail to get a Chuck Wagon dinner, they are closed Sunday and Monday.
Dinner “up the street” at the Branding Iron, whose chief advantage was proximity. The branding irons on the wall did not make up for the mediocre steak and chicken meal.
