Utah 2010 - Day 1 - Home > Kanab, UT

You guessed it, another long travel day!
Up at 5:30, cab to Newark, 9:05 flight to Vegas. On time to the gargantuan Las Vegas airport where we eventually caught the rent a car shuttle. After checking in with Enterprise, Jill said we had to go downstairs to “Billing”. Huh? Is this 1925? I eventually figured out we had to go downstairs to see Billy, well that’s my guess and I’m sticking with it. We picked out a black Chevy with “Billy’s” help It looks similar to a PT cruiser. Underpowered but ok. (A real eye catcher wherever we travelled.)
Left Vegas towards UT and got a kick out of sending emails and browsing the web on the iPad, from the car. Things sure have changed. $2.99 GPS program worked well too. (This would be virtually the last time we had AT&T or Nextel for the rest ofthe trip.)
After 2 hours we stopped in St. George and Jill picked up $127 worth of groceries and we continued on another hour and a half to Kanab. 107 degrees in St. George.
Deserted, wide open country. Eventually we found the house, but the owner’s directions didn’t get us in. By now it’s like 6 pm. Jill’s and Kristen’s cell phones didn’t work either... uh oh. I was really pissed off by this time... but thank God I still had a 7% charge left on my iPad and sent the owner an email, which she responded to in 5 minutes. Otherwise it could have been a real disaster.

The owner, who is the most pain-in-the-ass owner of any we have dealt with on VRBO, had apparently left off a critical detail intentionally and then phoned Jill’s cell phone that day with the missing detail. But we were already in the air by the time she called and Jill never checked her voicemail. Anyway, we were finally in.
The house is really nice, only about 2 years old, and facing giant red rock cliffs all around. Done in a beige color scheme, it has everything and is well stocked. It’s in a community that’s still under development, but it looks like the builder hasn’t sold much lately.
Jill made us dinner, completing our very long day (15 hours). She’s doing a lot of the driving on this trip, making it doubly tough for her.
