Day 4 - Cedar Breaks National Monument

Jill couldn’t bear the thought of just hanging at the pool, so drove up to Cedar Breaks National Monument.
It was about an hour and a half away. It seems to close in the winter due to snow conditions.
We passed lava fields near Navajo Lake that were sort of incongruous. It looked like Hawaii, and the park did not mention them. How old?

The monument is essentially a bowl full of colored geologic formations and hoodoos. You drive around to about 6 viewpoints and check it out. At one, the girls took a short hike towards Alpine Lake. The park’s at high altitude, up to 11,300 feet, and there were still patches of snow. We forgot to have Kristen make a snowball, though. We’re all out of breath this whole trip.
After checking ot the park, we drove on to the Brian Head ski resort area, seems to be recently developed. I kept wanting to see an enchanting French or Swiss old resort town, but no dice, just a bunch of condos.
Took a dirt road to the top of the mountain for a scenic view, but as we approached the top, the road was blocked by snow and Jill had to do a K Turn on the narrow dirt road. But we lived to tell the tale! And now our nice black car is all dusty...
Then it was back to the picnic area near the entrance for another of Jill’s homemade lunches at a picnic table.
Long drive home and dinner was a pasta dish Jill made up. Dad and Kristen talked about poker and checked out Texas Hold Em on the iPad.
