Day 5
Much better day today! Left the apartment around 10:00, found the cooking in the neighborhood, good thing, it's sort tucked away down a little street. Then we figured we look for the restaurant Igor and Anna told us about. That took a while to find. It was at the end of a piazza through a gated passage way. Tried to eat lunch, but were too early, so had pizza and a rice ball.
After lunch we headed to Capital Hill, climb to the top of the Victor Emmanuel monument, which is enormous, with great views of the colesseum and Forum. Went into the church was up there St Catherine or Maria, I'll have to look it up. We also went into the Capitoline museum. Which had cool pieces of art including the She wolf with Remus and Romulus. The museum also offered great views of the Forum.
Headed back home after sight seeing. We were going to take a taxi, but by the time we were near one we were almost home so we just walked, plus needed to find an ATM, not easy to find.
Pick up a gelato and went back home, call Dave and cooled the jets.
Went back out at around 5:30, Kristen was hungry. We found an ATM, good thing the restaurant only takes cash. We're too early, so went and had a drink in the piazza around the corner to people watch. We went back to see if the restaurant was open. We were still too early, they don't open until 7:00. So we walked around and went into a church, which was in the middle of some service where people were chanting including the priest who waved a finger at us, I think because Kristen was wearing shorts, oh well.
Now it was time for dinner at Trattoria der Pallaro, Loosen your belt buckle. Antipasti - olives, proscuitto, lentils, fried potato balls and some kind of croquette and tomatoes slices with olive oil. Primi - Pasta with marinara and carbonara, Secondi - frissee salad, homemade potato chip, small mozzarella balls and roast pork and finally dessert and almond cake with a shot of juice. Also served with dinner was a basket of bread, mineral water and a half carafe of wine all for 50 euros.
Back on the other side of the Tiber we talked to Dave who was in the hot tub, in bed by 10:00. We have another busy day tomorrow.
