Day 6
Here we go again... Got ready as usual, picked up a taxi and headed to the Galleria Borghese. We have timed tickets for 11:00, suggested arrival time is 30 minutes prior, in order to pick up the tickets. The taxi drops us off and tells us it impossible to get all the way up there, it is just ahead. Just ahead my foot! It was at least mile to the end of the street, which drops us at the piazza at the foot of the park. Then we have to climb the hill up to the park walk least another mile or so to the museum. We finally arrive at 10:50. Hot, sweaty and out of breath! Climb up to the entrance and a sign says "sorry for the inconvience, we are closed from 9:00-12:00 for a Union meeting" Kristen said I burst out laughing, I don't remember, I was too out of breath. So now we have to wait another hour before we can get our tickets. So we walk back another 400 feet to sit on a bench in the shade. We stop at a kiosk selling drinks and food and get water and a sandwich to split.
At 11:30 we go back and get on line with the and wait about 40 minutes to get in. Once in we went straight to the paintings like Rick suggests, no crowds, then on to the sculptures. So much to look at. The ceilings, the walls and doors and of course the Bernini's which were beautiful.
When we were done we headed back, not so bad going down hill. Our feet and toes are getting sore. No they are sore. Stopped to get gelatos and headed to the Spanish Steps. To tired to walk up. Kristen wanted to go the Hard Rock Cafe and get a sweatshirt. I figured ok, we'll rest our feet and get a drink, but of course we should have just walked up the steps, since we had to go up hill to there. Walked back down and found a taxi back to the apartment. Had a drink at the cafe downstairs from the apartment and watched the neighborhood go by.
After a brief rest and a chat with Dave, went to dinner at the same place as last night. What we thought were potato balls, were fried rice balls, the croquette was a fried meatball. We were asked if we want the same pasta at last night or a different one. We chose a different one and were offered fettucine. Tonights entree was some kind of cold beef with tomato and onions and chicken with peppers which was really good.
Stuffed, we went back to the apartment and chatted with Dave and then to bed. Tomorrow the Colosseum.
